Stripe Direct Debit Help
How to connect Direct Debit, send mandates, and troubleshoot payment collection in Scrubix.
What this gives you
- Collect recurring payments by Direct Debit with less manual chasing.
- Send single or bulk mandate invitations to eligible customers.
- Show payment links and Direct Debit context on invoices.
- Track payment status updates from webhook events.
1. Connect your Stripe Direct Debit account
- Open Scrubix app, go to the Stripe Direct Debit hub/settings section.
- Tap Connect Stripe Direct Debit and complete OAuth sign-in.
- Return to Scrubix and confirm account status shows connected.
If connection fails, check redirect URL and webhook setup in your Stripe Direct Debit app config.
2. Enable Direct Debit on invoices
- Open settings and enable Stripe Direct Debit for invoice workflows.
- Choose whether Direct Debit information appears on invoices.
- Save settings and send a test invoice to verify output.
3. Send mandate invites
Scrubix supports two invite flows:
- Single customer: send from customer/go-cardless actions.
- Bulk send: send to active regular customers only.
You can send by SMS, email, or both depending on contact availability and your communication settings.
4. Recommended customer message wording
Keep message text clear and short:
- Who you are (business name).
- Why customer is receiving the link.
- What happens next after they complete the mandate.
Avoid URL shorteners unless approved by your SMS provider policy.
5. Why SMS invites may fail
- No SMS credits available.
- Destination number invalid or missing country format.
- Provider policy block on unapproved links/domains.
- Customer has opted out of SMS in communication preferences.
If your provider requires domain authorization, whitelist your domain and/or approved payment destination domains before bulk sends.
6. Why payment status might not update
- Webhook URL not reachable from Stripe Direct Debit.
- Webhook signing secret mismatch.
- Wrong environment (sandbox vs live).
- Local account connected, but tenant-level settings disabled.
7. Sandbox vs live mode
- Sandbox: for testing setup and flows.
- Live: for real customer mandates and collections.
Before going live, test one complete cycle: connect -> send invite -> complete mandate -> receive webhook status.
